Ripping Your CD's to MP3 Using AudioGrabber

This is a short tutorial on using AudioGrabber to rip your songs onto your computer. Please Note that AudioGrabber is not software produced by SoftJock, Inc., and is copyrighted by Jackie Franck, and that we at SoftJock, do NOT do support for AudioGrabber - please see their website here.

            ||

Step 1 -- Step 2 -- Step 3 -- Step 4

Step 3: Ripping our first CD

Place an audio CD into your computer's CD drive, and after a few seconds it will be recognized by AudioGrabber, and you should see something similar to our screen here. We show 12 tracks, with the length and WAV filesize.

Now we want to fill in all the relevant information using the internet search feature in AudioGrabber, so click on the Penguin on the toolbar (text says Freedb under it), and AudioGrabber will connect to the internet, and lookup the CD on the FreeDB database.

Note: You will generally get good results for store bought CDs, and some DJ promotional CDs. If no results are returned, it means that no one has submitted that particular CD yet. If that is the case, you will need to manually fill in all the information yourself, and if you do so, please submit the CD to FreeDB, by using the Submit to freedb option of the CD menu, so that others can find it in the future.

In our case, the lookup was successful, and this is the result returned:

This is a compilation CD of 80's hits, so note the Compilation item is checked, the Artist is Various, and the Album title is filled in. Genre and Year did not come, so you can manually put that information in -- the Genre is important for later searching and sorting, so use the drop down list of genres to tag this group of files.

Now we're ready to do the rip to WAV, so click the Grab button on the toolbar, and AudioGrabber will start ripping, and display the following progress dialog to keep you informed.

Ripping to WAV is very fast, and as you can see, our CD read speed is over 23x. As long as the CDs are in decent shape, and you have a fast CD reader, it should complete in about 2 minutes.

When completed, it will eject the disc (if you have that option set), and you should see a screen like this:

At this point, we went ahead and ripped another CD for demonstration purposes. If we look in Window's Explorer, our folders and files should look something like this, as all the songs should now reside in the WAVIN folder, in WAV format.
